Foster Parents
Introduction
Abbott House Foster Parents have a special place in their hearts for children. If you want to help children overcome their past and be successful. This position is for you! Foster parents live as a family in a home provided by Abbott House with up to six foster children who have no safe place to call “home”. Foster parents receive training and support to ensure they are prepared to handle all types of traumatized children. Foster parents receive a full time salary, a complete benefit package, automobiles to transport children and many other support services.
Qualifications
A. Foster parents will be screened using standardized assessment methods that meet legal requirements for home studies of foster placements.
B. Foster parents will have a medical examination prior to hiring.
C. A calm personality and temperament to work with children and their biological families is necessary for this position as foster parents provide care, protection and love to encourage healthy growth and development for all of their foster children.
D. The ability to motivate and work cooperatively with other professionals and employees of the Agency.
E. The ability to effectively interact with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the client population.
Responsibilities
A. Provide direct therapeutic services to children using the Interaction and Motivation program used by the Agency.
B. Assure close/appropriate supervision of children in accordance with agency standards.
C. Judicious intervention in any crisis situation to assure the safety of children, staff or agency property in accordance with agency practice
D. Maintain positive communication with parents, referring agencies and collateral agency resources including providing necessary documentation in a timely manner.
E. Perform other duties as assigned.
